In short

Contact a forwarder six to ten weeks before a full-container move and two to three weeks before an air or small shared shipment, because that is what it takes to align packing, pickup and the actual sailing or flight schedule.

  • Peak periods — July-August and December — need more lead time; space is tighter on both vessels and aircraft
  • Quotes are itemised by line and come with the exclusions named
  • Inventories are screened against the Lartas list before the booking is confirmed

The sequence

Six steps, in order

The first three cost you nothing.

  1. 01

    1 · First contact

    Send your origin address, the delivery address in Bali, rough volume or weight, and your date. Say whether the receiver is a private individual, a company or a visitor on a stay permit — it changes the customs treatment.

  2. 02

    2 · Survey

    A video walkthrough or an in-home visit sets the real volume. For a multi-supplier buying trip, this is also where consolidation and repacking get scoped.

  3. 03

    3 · Written quote

    A mode comparison, a container recommendation and a line-by-line quote with inclusions and exclusions stated. Typically back in under 24 hours.

  4. 04

    4 · Booking and deposit

    Space booked on a named sailing or flight. The Lartas screening of your inventory happens here, before anything is collected.

  5. 05

    5 · Packing and pickup

    Export-grade packing where you have asked for it, itemised inventory with photographs, container loaded and sealed with a bolt seal whose number you are given.

  6. 06

    6 · Clearance and delivery

    Documents filed ahead of arrival, duty and tax settled against a transparent breakdown, then delivery to the room with reassembly and packing removal if that is in your tier.

You are told at booking which line or airline your cargo is on, and given the bill of lading or air waybill reference. If a forwarder will not tell you that, ask why.

Before you commit

Four questions worth asking us, and anyone else

The answers to these four separate a real door-to-door service from a port-to-port one wearing its name.

What is in the package?

Does it include professional packing, export documentation, Indonesian customs brokerage and delivery into the property — or only port charges and trucking? Is unloading and placement inside the villa included or extra?

Best and worst case?

Ask for a range, not one optimistic figure. Sea is 6-8 weeks door-to-door from Western origins; anyone quoting materially less is quoting port-to-port.

Who screens the cargo?

Which of your items need permits, which are restricted, and who checks that before it ships rather than after it is seized.

How do updates work?

Agree the milestones and the frequency at the start: collection, departure, arrival in Indonesia, customs release, delivery scheduling. Uncertainty is the expensive part of a long transit.
