Five phases, and what can go wrong in each
A door-to-door shipment is not one action, it is a sequence. This is the sequence, with the failure point of each step named rather than glossed over.
Get a quoteIn short
Almost every delayed shipment into Bali fails on paperwork rather than on freight, which is why documentation is treated as the main job and the vessel booking as the easy part.
- Inventory audited against the Lartas list before booking
- Documents filed electronically before the vessel arrives
- Container seal number recorded and given to you
The process
What happens, in order
Nothing is collected until phase one is in writing and agreed.
-
01
Consultation and transparent quoting
Volume, timeline and budget set the mode: air, FCL or LCL. The quote breaks out origin charges, main freight, destination charges, duties and taxes, insurance and final delivery as separate lines. Your inventory is audited against the Indonesian Lartas list before anything is confirmed.
-
02
Professional packing and secure collection
Crews trained in export packing, with the container weight balanced for transit. All wooden crates and pallets are heat-treated and stamped to ISPM 15, which Indonesia requires. An itemised inventory with photographs is made during packing, then a high-security bolt seal goes on and its number is recorded and given to you.
-
03
Documentation and customs pre-clearance
Bill of lading or air waybill, commercial invoice, packing list and any import permits, prepared under the company's PPJK licence. Items are classified to the correct HS codes so Bea Cukai calculates duty on the right basis, and everything is submitted electronically before arrival so clearance can start before the vessel berths.
-
04
Tracking and proactive communication
Sea containers tracked by satellite, air freight through the airline cargo system. Milestone updates at collection, departure, arrival in Indonesia, customs release and delivery scheduling — pushed to you rather than waiting to be asked.
-
05
Delivery and unpacking in Bali
Delivery scheduled to suit you, with a vehicle sized for the actual road and the actual gate. The crew unloads, places furniture in the rooms you want, unpacks, and takes the packing debris away.
Phase one is the one worth arguing with. A quote that will not break out destination charges and duty separately is hiding the two numbers most likely to surprise you.
Where this usually goes wrong elsewhere
Three failure modes we have seen often enough to design around.
-
Undervalued inventory
Bea Cukai runs its own valuation. A declaration that comes in low triggers re-evaluation, fines and storage charges while the cargo sits.
-
Demurrage
Free storage at Benoa expires. After that a container accrues charges daily, which is why documents are filed before arrival rather than after.
-
Inconsistent documents
Invoice, packing list and bill of lading that disagree with each other is the single most common reason cargo to Bali is held.
Ask what phase your shipment is in
If you are already booked, ask. If you are comparing quotes, send us the one you have and we will tell you which of these five phases it does not cover.
